MICHAELATV.COM INTERVIEWS R&B LEGEND: MELI’SA MORGAN!

Meli’sa Morgan is an African American R&B singer born in QueensNew York who had a string of urban contemporary and house music hits in the 1980s and 1990s. She got her start in the music industry whilst singing with a church gospel choir called the Starlets of Corona. She cites Chaka Khan as a major influence.  Her initial chart entry was as the lead singer of the dance groupShades of Love. They had a single entry on Billboard magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1982, the #26 “Body to Body (Keep in Touch)”. This was re-popularized in 1994 by new remixes, “Body to Body (Keep in Touch)”, and reached number 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.

That same year, music entrepreneur Jacques Fred Petrus asked her to join his newly created studio group, High Fashion, that featured Morgan and two other New York vocalists, Eric McClinton and Alyson Williams. High Fashion’s sole hit, “Feelin’ Lucky Lately”, reached #32 on the U.S. Black Singles chart. In 1983 Morgan left, and was replaced in the group by the jazz vocalist, Marcella Allen.

As a solo artist she topped the R&B chart with her cover version of Prince’s “Do Me, Baby”,[1] (the title track from her debut album) which also became her only Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at #46 in 1986. She had several solo hits on the U.S. dance chart as well, including “Still in Love With You,” which hit #3 in 1992.

MichaelaTVRadio Marches in the 54th Annual 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade!

This year we had the pleasure of being invited to march in the 54th Annual 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union No. 157 aka The Latino’s Club was kind enough to host us on their amazing float. We got to see long time friends and had the opportunity meet some new ones as well. It was a pleasure to meet Curtis Sliwa CEO of The Guardian Angels and take photos with New York’s finest the New York City Police Department. We bumped into Freestyle Legends: TKA and also spent some time with Speedy who is a co-host on The Luis Jimenez Show of 96.3 FM which is the #1 Spanish Speaking Morning Radio show in North America. Being Puerto Rican and marching in the parade means you raise your flag high and show your pride for being part of a culture that inspires passion, dancing, good food and good music in others.  If you aren’t Puerto Rican, you can be Puerto Rican for one day by saying: QUE BONITA BANDERA! OR by screaming at the top of your lungs: WEEEEEEEEEEEEPA! It’s all about pride baby, it’s all about pride.
