MichaelaTVRadio Marches in the 54th Annual 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade!

This year we had the pleasure of being invited to march in the 54th Annual 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union No. 157 aka The Latino’s Club was kind enough to host us on their amazing float. We got to see long time friends and had the opportunity meet some new ones as well. It was a pleasure to meet Curtis Sliwa CEO of The Guardian Angels and take photos with New York’s finest the New York City Police Department. We bumped into Freestyle Legends: TKA and also spent some time with Speedy who is a co-host on The Luis Jimenez Show of 96.3 FM which is the #1 Spanish Speaking Morning Radio show in North America. Being Puerto Rican and marching in the parade means you raise your flag high and show your pride for being part of a culture that inspires passion, dancing, good food and good music in others.  If you aren’t Puerto Rican, you can be Puerto Rican for one day by saying: QUE BONITA BANDERA! OR by screaming at the top of your lungs: WEEEEEEEEEEEEPA! It’s all about pride baby, it’s all about pride.

2011 New York Puerto Rican Day Parade Gala Event at Gracie Mansion Hosted by Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg!

This year, we had the pleasure of being invited to the opening gala of The 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade at Gracie Mansion. Mayor Michael Bloomberg hosted the party and the food was provided by Spanish Harlem’s own La Fonda Boriqua. Coquito’s were being served, Flan was being passed out, Arroz con gandules and Pernil was in everyone’s hands. It feels good to share the experience of being Puerto Rican with friends, business contacts and Mayor Bloomberg’s secret service! My only complaint is that the Mayor didn’t take the time to take photos with his guests! I will catch him next year for sure! Hmmmppfff! ♥

About Fair But Firm™ & Hall of Fame Boxing Referee Joe Cortez
The sport of boxing requires several ingredients: the fighters, a venue, a commission to oversee the fight, promoters, judges and, of course referees. One of the most outstanding referees is Joe Cortez. A referee for more than 25 years, Joe has seen the best and worst of fight cards. When it comes to the best, he has officiated Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson, Roberto Duran, George Foreman, and Lennox Lewis just to name a few. When it comes to the worst, they remain forgettable.
Joe was born and raised in New York City in Spanish Harlem, and lived in Puerto Rico for eight years. Like many young men in the neighborhood, Joe and his brother Mike gravitated toward boxing. They were a team in amateur bouts and Golden Gloves tournaments and continued on to compete professionally. Joe stopped fighting because of lack of boxing opportunities at that time.
